This man was the author of thirty-one novels, none of which have ever gone out of print. While redefining the novel, he used his writing to expose the dire condition of the poor in the 19th century. The memorable characters of Scrooge, David Copperfield, Oliver Twist, and Miss Havisham all came from his pen. His books have been adapted for the stage and screen, with great success. A museum in London bears his name and contains some of the first drafts of his works.
Happy 200th birthday, Charles Dickens!
